OXFORD - Everett M. Eastman, 89, of Conlin Road, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth E. (Woodcock) Eastman of Oxford; and two close friends, Joe Direnzo of CT, and Diane Kaminski of Oxford. He was predeceased by his son, James E. Eastman of Oxford, who died in an automobile accident in 1979. He was born in Charlton, the son of the late Russell S. and Leona (Mason) Eastman. Mr. Eastman was the animal control officer for the Town of Oxford for 18 years, retiring in 1982. Previously, he worked at Pullman Standard in Worcester for 15 years and was an assistant foreman at Jamesbury Valve for 11 years. Mr. Eastman was the founder and past president of the Worcester County Dog Officer's Assoc. and was an instructor for hunting and trapping for the Mass. Dept. of Wildlife and Environmental Law Enforcement. Mr. and Mrs. Eastman worked with the Navajo Indians in 1994 to assist in controlling the coyote problem. At that time, they were the first white people to be offered a place to live on an Indian reservation. They also enjoyed traveling in their camper and helping people trap throughout the country. He was a well-known sportsman and loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at the Oxford Senior Center, 323 Main St., Oxford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is assisting with the arrangements.
