Ethelinda Montfort

WEBSTER - Ethelinda “Linda” B. Montfort of Cheshire, CT., formerly of Webster, MA, Long Island, NY, and Thompson, CT, died at home on January 17, 2018, at the age of 92.

She attended Bartlett High School in Webster and graduated from the Bancroft School in Worcester. She also attended Connecticut College in New London, CT.

Mrs. Montfort was active in the Girl and Boy Scout organizations and at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Long Island. She served on the Altar Guild, Vestry, church fairs, thrift shop and Sunday School. She was also a volunteer at the local Hospital in Glen Cove, Long Island, for twenty years. In 1990, she and her husband, Fredric H. retired to Thompson, CT. They celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary on February 19, 2010. While in Thompson, Ethelinda was a member of the Woman’s Board of Day Kimball Hospital, the Thompson Historical Society, the Friends of the Library, Learning in Retirement at Quinebaug Valley Community College and Christ Church in Pomfret, CT, where she served on the Altar Guild.

In April of 2010, she and her husband moved to Cheshire, CT, where he died in June, 2010. She attended St. Peter’s Church in Cheshire, CT, until her passing. There, she was also active in the Altar Guild.

She leaves a son, Fredric C. Montfort (Judith Altman) of NYC and Bozeman, MT, daughters, Lucia Sherman (Edward) of Belle Mead, NJ and Linda Gremelsbacker (John) of Cheshire, CT, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her sister, Jane B. Howland died in 1991. Ethelinda was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Craigin Bartlett of Webster.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 59 Main St., Cheshire, CT. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
