Eric Stanmyer

October 6, 1949 — July 4, 2017

NORTH OXFORD - Eric Stanmyer, 67, of North Oxford passed away on July 4, 2017 at the UMass Memorial Medical Center after complications following a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

He leaves his wife of 33 years, Christine (Hoffmann) Stanmyer; three children: Alexander Stanmyer and his wife, Natalie Susmann, Elise Stanmyer, and Jeffrey Stanmyer and his fiancée, Miranda Bethune; mother, Patricia Blake; brothers Thomas and Robert and their wives Susan and Constance; sisters-in-law, Anne, Emmy, Rose and her husband, David; and a dozen nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, James, his nephew, Mica, his father, Joseph, and stepfather, Buck.

Eric was born in Philadelphia but moved along the East Coast many times as a child, his family ultimately settling down when he was as a teenager in New Paltz, New York. He attended Clark University in Worcester, MA and returned to Massachusetts later as an adult where he met his wife. Together they have lived in North Oxford for over 30 years.

As a young man Eric worked many odd jobs, including stints as a taxi driver, a camp counselor, and an employee at Dedrick’s Pharmacy in New Paltz. Eventually, Eric settled into a long career of software engineering. As an engineer he worked at several technology companies including Prime Computers and Kronos. For most of the past decade Eric has worked as a contractor at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory doing work that he found to be exciting and intellectually fulfilling.

Eric enjoyed the outdoors, particularly the mountains and ocean; reading, most notably science journalism dealing with questions of the universe and science fiction; learning about different cultures, especially through their cuisines; and spending time relaxing at home with his family.
