OXFORD - Edwin A. "Mickey" Briggs, Sr., 84, of Sutton Avenue, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria K. (Kumle) Briggs of Oxford; eight children, Linda Costello and her husband Patrick of Greenville, NH, Karl Briggs of Oxford, Steven Briggs and his wife Sharon of Oxford, James Briggs and his wife Lynne of Oxford, John Briggs and his wife Robin of Oxford, Kathleen Lavallee and her husband Michael of Northbridge, Albert Briggs and his wife Erica of Bellingham, and Edwin Briggs Jr. and his wife Dena of Charlton; a sister, K. Bernice Pinard and her husband Al of North Oxford; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Briggs and Patricia Briggs, both of Auburn; 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, James Douglas Briggs and John David Briggs; and his daughter-in-law, Diane Briggs. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Edwin C. and Kathleen (Quinn) Briggs, and lived in Auburn before moving to Oxford in 1952. Mr. Briggs was a tractor trailer truck driver for Nissen Baking Company in Worcester for 33 years, retiring in 1991. He was a longtime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and enjoyed skiing, canoeing, hiking, and biking. In his younger days, he liked to ride his motorcycle. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, and going to the ocean. He started woodcarving in his retirement and created items for his friends and family. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather, and he enjoyed being around people. Services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Paradis Funeral Home in Oxford is assisting with arrangements.
