Edward Ahern, Jr.

OXFORD - Edward F. Ahern, Jr., 85, died Saturday, December 1, 2012. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy M. (Boerner) Ahern who died in 1996. He is survived by three children, Karen E. Ahern and her husband Elliot Savitzky of Boston, Janet K. Kahane and her husband Ernie of Acton, and Timothy E. Ahern of Southbridge; a sister, E. Ann Conover of Menifee, CA; four grandchildren, Adam Savitzky, Danny Savitzky, Jill Kahane, and Jonathan Kahane; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased one sister. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Edward F. and Esther C. (Froggatt) Ahern Sr., and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford in 1952. He graduated from South High School in Worcester and later from Duke University in 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Ahern was a chemist at White and Bagley Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Roch's Church in Oxford. His hobbies included black & white photography, model ship building, wood-working, collecting big band music, and playing table tennis. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford. A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. prior to the Mass on Tuesday at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice, 2 Shaker Road, Suite D225, Shirley, MA 01464-2525.
