Douglas Smyers

OXFORD - Douglas M. Smyers, 47, of Main Street, died suddenly at home on Saturday, July 20, 2013. He is survived by his partner, Kelleen J. Benway and her son Owen of Oxford; his father, David Smyers of Richburg, NY; his mother, Bernice Golden of East Amherst, NY; his daughter, Mary Charlene Smyers of Payneville, KY; two brothers, David Smyers of Richburg, NY, and Dale Smyers of East Amherst, NY; a sister, DeAnna Golden-Arabaty of East Amherst, NY; and two grandchildren. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, and lived in New York as well as many areas throughout the country, before moving to Oxford earlier this year. Mr. Smyers was a proud member of the Ironworker's Union for 28 years. He will be remembered as a good-hearted man who cared for Kelleen and Owen and brought stability to their lives. A funeral service and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
