Doris Adams

OXFORD - Doris H. (Daviau) Adams, 87, formerly of Oxford, died Friday, January 16, 2009, at Day-Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Everett Stewart Adams, also of Oxford, who died in 1991. She is survived by a son, Robin S. Adams, of Wasilla, Alaska; three daughters, Joanne V. Adams of Worcester, Wendy T. Christy of Largo, Florida, and Alison L. Adams of Charlton; two brothers, Donald G. Daviau Ph.D. of Austria, and Roy A. Daviau of Shrewsbury; a sister, Jane M. Sherman of Middletown, Indiana; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late George and Jennie (Burbank) Daviau, and lived most of her life in Oxford. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester in 1939 and attended Quinsigamond Community College. Mrs. Adams was an LPN supervisor at Worcester State Hospital for 21 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford and was a member and past master of the Charlton Grange. She was also a past matron of the Clara Barton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Adams sang with her husband in many churches in the Worcester area, as well as in Florida and Cape Cod. She was a former member of the Worcester County Light Opera Club and the Dorian Singers. She enjoyed singing with her husband and four children, and won 2nd Place in a National Grange Competition in 1965. A memorial service will be held on her birthday in the spring. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, c/o the Memorial Fund, 355 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is directing the arrangements.
