OXFORD – Donald Thomas Mekler, 62, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 9, 2024. He is survived by his son, Nathan Thomas Mekler and his wife Sharrie Mekler of Oxford; his mother, Diane Ethel (Berry) Brunell of Oxford; two sisters, Katherine LaRose and her husband Matthew of Oxford, and Kristy Brunell of Oxford; his aunt, Ruth Berube of Princeton; his longtime girlfriend, Susan Carlson of Dudley; one expected future grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Paul Brunell; and his brother, Joseph Mekler. He was born in Augsburg, Germany, before becoming a resident of Oxford for most of his life.
He graduated from Bay Path R.V.T. High School in Charlton in 1979 with carpentry as his trade of choice. Mr. Mekler was a highly skilled carpenter his entire life, and a member of the Carpenters Union for many years. He was a football and NASCAR fan, and he loved his vehicles, especially his Roadrunner and his big green truck. He enjoyed trips to the beach, especially his trips to Old Orchard Beach with his son. He loved deep sea fishing, weekend trips to the casino with his girlfriend, and scuba diving in his younger years. He was an extremely hard worker, loved doing projects, and he was always willing to help friends and family with whatever they needed done in their homes.
He was a man of honor and integrity, honest to a fault, and his word was his bond. He was someone you could always count on to be there if you needed him. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
