OXFORD - David N. Orbon, 71, of Lovett Road, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, surrounded by his family at UMass Memorial Healthcare - University Campus, Worcester, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Patricia L. (Ashton) Orbon of Oxford; three children, Karin Curran and her husband Timothy of Dudley, David N. Orbon Jr. and his wife Christine of Oxford, and Lee Orbon of Oxford; a brother, John Paul Orbon and his wife Linda of Auburn; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Marissa. He was predeceased by his first wife, Diana (Shaloviejus) Orbon of Oxford, who died in 1994; and his three aunts who helped raise him, Gertrude Orbon, Anna Orbon, and Beatrice Orbon, all of Worcester; two half-brothers, Donald and Richard Lagesse; and two half-sisters, Gloria Duff and Joyce Lagesse. He was born in New York City, the son of the late John and Marie (Blette) Orbon, and was raised in Worcester and lived his entire adult life in Oxford. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in Worcester. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves from 1958-1966. Mr. Orbon was retired from Verizon, where he worked for over 30 years. He also co-owned and operated "The Flea" on Sutton Avenue in Oxford for many years. He was a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club and a proud member of the Republican Party. He loved gardening, fishing, and visiting casinos across the country. He was an avid history buff with a special interest in the American Civil War, and followed politics and the stock market closely. Mr. Orbon and his family enjoyed watching sports together especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed the beach, going on cruises, and playing poker with his family. He was an excellent cook and was famous for his secret meatloaf recipe. He loved and had many Dobermans Pinchers over the years and had a special place in his heart for his dog Achilles. He had a great sense of humor and had many lifelong friends from childhood that remained very close to him throughout his life. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Thursday, April 8, 2010, from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
