OXFORD - Daniel W. Cahill, 81, of Wheelock St., died suddenly Friday, February 6, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clare F. (O'Connell) Cahill of Oxford; seven children, Daniel J. Cahill and his wife Cheryl of Dudley, Maureen C. Barry and her husband Richard of Shrewsbury, Paul T. Cahill and his wife Eileen of Miami, FL, David W. Cahill and his wife Janis of Douglas, Kathleen H. Maitland and her husband James of Ellington, CT, Anne M. Cahill and her fiancé John Scirpoli of Shrewsbury, and Patricia C. Talbot and her husband Anthony of Worcester; a brother, Roger J. Cahill and his wife Patricia of Centerville; a brother-in-law, Rev. Paul T. O'Connell of Shrewsbury; two sisters-in-law, Patricia R. Wickstrom of Northbridge and Rosemary Cahill of Windsor, CT; 13 grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, and Erin Cahill, Katelyn, Christopher, and Courtney Barry, Adam Cahill, Andrew, Brett, and Sarah Cahill, Ashley and Jessica Maitland, and Olivia Talbot; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Major Kenneth J. Cahill. He was born in Northbridge, the son of the late James F. and Dorilda M. (Cournoyer) Cahill, and lived in Whitinsville before moving to Oxford in 1954. He graduated from Northbridge High School in 1946 and Northeastern University, Boston, in 1954. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Japan. Mr. Cahill was an insurance agent at John Hancock for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford. He was also a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, a member of the American Legion Post 58 and the Knights of Columbus Council 4241. Mr. Cahill loved to travel both in the United States and abroad. He also loved his family, photography, politics, history, walking, his Irish heritage, and Cape Cod. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville. Calling hours are Monday, February 9, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
