Constance Johnson

d. May 25, 2014

Charlton - Constance (Greenleaf) Johnson, "Nunny" the daughter and only child of the late Eva (Thibeault) and Albert Greenleaf went to meet her Lord on May 25, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Oxford in 1930 where she lived for most of her life. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1948 and Becker College in 1951 where she majored in medical secretarial studies. She worked for Dr. James Maycock of Worcester until she married the love of her life in 1952, at which time she moved to Ft. Benning, GA. Connie and Ken returned to Oxford and started a family. She was a longtime member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford where she both volunteered in the office and taught in the religious education program. She was also a member of the St. Roch's choir for several years. Constance was married to her beloved husband, Ronald "Ken" for fifty years prior to his death in 2003. They converted their long-time summer cabin on Glen Echo Lake, Charlton into a year-round home and moved there in 1998. After moving, she joined St. Joseph's Church in Charlton - a community which she considered to be her second family. Singing in the St. Joe's Choir brought her great pride and joy. Her life was dedicated to her family and to God. She was always a true caregiver. Constance and her husband were very active in the Disabled American Veterans and traveled to many events to support the organization. She was Commander of Unit #4 Worcester DAV Auxiliary and volunteered many years at the Veteran's Administration Outpatient Clinic in Worcester. Connie is survived by her four sons and their wives as well as her daughter and her husband; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Dr. Mark Johnson and his wife Dawn of West Plains, MO; Stephen Johnson and his wife Sandra of Warren, MI; Ronald Johnson and his wife Deborah of Holden, MA; Arthur Johnson and his wife Jeannie of Sturbridge, MA; and Allison Howard and her husband George of Charlton, MA. She was an adoring "Nunny" to Amanda Normandin and her husband Randy of Sturbridge, MA; Emily Arth and her husband Dr. James Arth of Columbia, MO; Ryan Johnson of Brighton, MA; Elijah Johnson of Springfield, MO; Abigail and Olivia Howard of Charlton, MA. She was a loving "Grand-Nunny" to Jewels and Hunter Normandin of Sturbridge, MA. Connie was the epitome of integrity and class in all that she did. She was an inspiration to many and admired by her family and friends. Her true joy in life was her family and being surrounded by laughter, celebration and activity at "the Lake." She also enjoyed her paddle-boat, planting flowers, working with her friends at St. Joe's and singing in the choir. Her friends both near and far, were very important to her and she loved her "Friday luncheons with the girls." Connie, Mom, Nunny, Grand-Nunnyhas left us with cherished memories. She has touched many lives and through her example and actions will continue to touch many lives. She is gone too soon but will never ever be forgotten. The Johnson family extends their deepest gratitude to the caring and compassionate nurses and physicians at St. Vincent Hospital ER and Critical Care Unit.
