Charles Hendrick, Jr.

January 18, 1935 — August 2, 2017

CHARLTON – Charles A. Hendrick Jr., 82, of Burns Lane, died suddenly on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, CT, while visiting family. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Lois J. Kemmer of Charlton; two daughters, Cathleen Hendrick Nikosey and her husband Dale Nikosey of Charlton, and Christine A. Hendrick-Kemmer and her husband William Kemmer of Florida, NY; a brother, Robert V. Hendrick and his wife Mary of Norwalk, CT; two sisters, Lois McCarthy of Fall River and Jean Mulligan of Norwalk, CT; three grandchildren, Sean Perkins of Virginia, and Caitlyn Corfey and Emily Corfey, both of Charlton; and very special nieces and nephews. He was born in Norwalk, son of the late Charles A. and Viola M. (Guyer) Hendrick, and lived most of his life in Norwalk and several years in Paxton, before moving to Charlton in 1999. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1954 and attended the University of Connecticut. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the military police.

Mr. Hendrick is retired from a career in retail sales and distribution. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Norwalk, CT, and had many friends at the First Congregational Church in Oxford. Mr. Hendrick was a member of the East Norwalk Boat Club and the Outboard Cruising Club, both in Norwalk. He enjoyed kayaking, camping, boating, as well as visiting Long Island Sound, Lake George, and Brown Tract Pond. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and was particularly proud of his grandchildren.

Memorial calling hours are Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 9:00-11:30 a.m., at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford, directly next door to the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date.
