ROCHDALE – Caroline R. (Shivick) Lavallee, 80, of Sabina Circle, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Auburn, surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Normand T. Lavallee who died in 2006. She is survived by four children, Christine L. Bell and her husband Robert of Easthampton, John D. Lavallee and his wife Marjorie of Rochdale, Jeffrey R. Lavallee of East Brookfield, and Paul B. Lavallee of West Boylston; a brother, Raymond Shivick of Oxford; a sister, Christine D. Mathieu of York Beach, ME; seven precious grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Stanley W. and Julia R. (Sawicki) Shivick, and lived in Berlin, Lakeland, FL, and York Beach, ME, before moving to Rochdale 8 years ago. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1954.
Mrs. Lavallee worked at the U.S. Post Office in Leominster for 19 years, retiring in 1999. Previously, she worked at State Mutual Life Assurance Company and Wyman-Gordon, both in Worcester. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in North Oxford. She was a member of the St. Joseph Woman’s Club in Berlin, and volunteered at the Food Pantry of York and Helping Hands at St. Christopher’s Church in York. She was an avid fan of the New England sports teams.
Mrs. Lavallee was a very loving, giving and kind person. She drove people to doctor’s appointments, helped anyone in need, and was a very religious and spiritual person who was always active in the churches she belonged to. She donated to UNICEF and adopted a child in her later years through Child Fund International. She was affectionately known as “Cal” in her younger years and “Sweet Caroline” in her later years.
A funeral will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Webster. Memorial calling hours are Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
