Bruce Smith

LEICESTER - Bruce C. Smith, 61, of Pleasant Street, died of heart complications on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at his summer home in Greenville, Maine. He is survived by two children, Tanyalee J. Gallant-Smith of Southbridge, and Richard C. Smith and his wife Justine of North Brookfield; his former spouse, Barbara (Gallant) Yolda of Danielson, CT; three brothers, Glen Smith of Worcester, Clark Smith of Leicester, and Wayne Smith of Leicester; two granddaughters, Lily Ann Smith and Chloe Lee Smith, both of North Brookfield; his longtime friend, Jane Blinkhorn of Uxbridge; his beloved cat, Rocky; and many nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Walter and Lillian (Cabana) Smith, and lived in Leicester for over 40 years. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1967 and Worcester Industrial Technical Institute in 1969. Mr. Smith was a machine adjuster at Worcester Envelope Co. for 20 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of Greenville Baptist Church in Rochdale. In high school, he played baseball and basketball for 4 years, was selected for the All-City baseball team for 2 years, and was co-captain of the basketball team. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, and woodworking. He had a love for animals and thought of his summer camp in Greenville, ME, as his second home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Greenville Baptist Church, 674 Pleasant St., Rochdale. Burial will follow at Greenville Baptist Cemetery, Rochdale. Calling hours are Friday, June 5, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.
