Bernard Szwarc

OXFORD – Bernard H. Szwarc, 95, of Walcott St., died Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster, after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Gladys E. (Andriski) Szwarc of Oxford, who died in 1993. He is survived by two children, Bernard M. Szwarc of Salem and Ann Szwarc of Swampscott; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, Stanley Szwarc, Flora Szwarc, Victoria Sheridan, Frances Szwarc, Dr. Anthony Szwarc, Stella Krawczyk, and Vincent Szwarc. Mr. Szwarc was born in Webster, the son of the late Vincenty and Anna (Przelomski) Szwarc, and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford 57 years ago. He was a member of the first graduating class of the new St. Joseph's School in Webster in 1925. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Szwarc was an armorer at the National Guard Armory in Webster for 20 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford and a former member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at the church. Mr. Szwarc was involved in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Little League when his children were young, and enjoyed traveling and refinishing furniture. A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2007, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours are Sunday, April 22, 2007, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
