Avis Gomes

THOMPSON, CT - Avis E. (Beauregard) Gomes, 83, of Orchard Drive and formerly of Webster, died Saturday, October 17, 2015, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Louis A. Gomes Jr. of Webster. She is survived by three children, Alan L. Gomes and his wife Wendy of North Grosvenordale, Doreen M. Hatfield and her husband Robert of Oxford, and Pamela J. Polletta and her husband Michael of Thompson, CT; her son-in-law, Joseph S. Galvin of Oxford; her sister, Barbara Miller of Staten Island, NY; her best friend, Louis Polletta of Webster; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen E. Galvin who died in 2014; three brothers and two sisters. She was born in Amherst, daughter of the late Arthur J. and Viola I. (Thompson) Beauregard, and lived most of her life in Webster before moving to Thompson 5 years ago. Mrs. Gomes retired from American Optical in Southbridge, where she worked for over 25 years. During retirement, she worked at Nichols College in Dudley. She enjoyed making crafts and donating them to her church, working outdoors, flower gardening, and loved spending time with her family. The family would like to thank Masonicare Hospice and especially nurse Noah White for the exceptional care provided during her illness. A funeral will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Church, 15 Lake St., Webster. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Webster. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
