Arthur Smith

WORCESTER - Arthur N. Smith, 88, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Kindred-Parkview Hospital in Leicester. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley M. (Kouts) Smith of Worcester, two children, Mark C. Smith and his wife Georgia Xydes of Austin, TX, and Beverly J. Smith and her husband Karl Witter of Bloomingfield, CT; three grandchildren, Cameron Smith of Washington, DC, and Evangelos and Marika Smith of Austin, TX. He was born in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late James and Mildred (Delano) Smith, and lived in Vinalhaven, ME, before moving to Worcester in 1939. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Smith was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Worcester for 32 years. He was a member of the Joel Prouty Lodge of Masons in Auburn and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. There are no funeral services planned. Burial will be in Brown Head Cemetery, Vinalhaven, Maine, at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is directing the arrangements.
