Alfred Thompson

NORTH OXFORD - Alfred C. Thompson, 86, of Thayer Pond Drive, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Life Care Center of Auburn. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Corliss A. (Whitney) Thompson of North Oxford; a son, Joel C. Thompson of Newtown, CT; a daughter, Jean K. Thompson of Hudson; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was born on March 13, 1923 in South Weymouth, the son of the late Alfred A.J. Thompson and Helen (White) Thompson, and lived in Newtown, CT, and Westboro, before moving to North Oxford in 1989. He graduated from Weymouth High School, received a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received a Master's Degree from Northeastern University. Mr. Thompson was a mechanical engineer, working for several firms, and retiring from Riley Stoker Corp. in Worcester. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was an avid Red Sox fan. As long as health permitted, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Westboro. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are 9:30 - 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation Massachusetts Chapter, Inc., 29 Crafts Street, Suite 450, Newton, MA 02458-1287.
