Albert Giles

SPENCER - Albert "Bert" B. Giles, 70, of Charlton Road, died suddenly with his family by his side on Friday, October 4, 2013, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nance M. (Auger) Giles of Spencer; three children, Michelle L. Payson of Douglas, Sean D. Giles and his wife Andrea of Rochdale, and Jennalyn J. Giles of Spencer; a brother, Dennis Giles and his wife Susan of North Grosvenordale, CT; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Noreen Parmentier of North Oxford; four grandchildren, Jeremy Payson, Sophia Payson, Vivian Giles, and Abigail McDaniel; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Bates who died in 2010. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Albert and Amelia (Germain) Giles, and was raised in Oxford and lived in Leicester for 26 years before moving to Spencer 11 years ago. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1961 and was a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Mr. Giles was a maintenance mechanic at Norton/Saint-Gobain Company in Worcester for 36 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he worked at Graphite Insulating Systems in Gardner for 5 years. He was a member of St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish in Leicester and the Auburn/Webster Elks Lodge 2118 in Auburn. He enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with his family. A funeral will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius/St. Jude Parish, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester. Burial will be private at a later date. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 9, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
