OXFORD – Albert Mitchell Adams, 80, of Main Street, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, in his home. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn R. (Smith) Adams of Oxford; two children, John A. Adams and his wife Amber of Wilmington, DE, and Laura Beth LeBreton of Oxford; his grandson, Jonathan A. LeBreton of Oxford; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary C. Adams who died in 2015, and Anna E. Strader who died in 2017. He was born in Leicester, son of the late George F. and Rachel (Mitchell) Adams. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1955, and veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Adams worked for the Worcester County House of Correction for 9 years, retiring in 2000. Previously, he was a security guard at Memorial Hospital in Worcester. In addition, he was a part-time police officer for the Oxford Police Department. He was a member, trustee, and head usher at the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford.
Mr. Adams was a member and Past Master of the Oxford Lodge of Masons and was Past District Deputy and Chaplain Emeritus of the 24th District, where he received the Joseph Warren Award. He was a member of the Melha Shriners in Springfield and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star – Clara Barton Chapter 63 in Oxford. He was for former Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 120 in Oxford and was a member of the American Legion Post 58 in Oxford. He served the town as a constable, election worker, and as a member of the former Oxford Ambulance Operating Committee.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford. Military burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or to the Melha Shriners, 133 Longhill St., Springfield, MA 01108.
