Biography

OXFORD / SEBRING, FL – Sharon “Sandia” V. Wehenkel, 63, formerly of Oxford, died Monday, June 4, 2012, at her home in Sebring surrounded by her family, after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her father, Walter C. Wehenkel of Sebring, FL; her brother, Walter C. Wehenkel Jr. (Carol) of Port Clinton, OH; her sister, Barbara Lafleche of Holly Hill, FL; her niece, Marie V. Wehenkel of Memphis, TN; five nephews, Walter C. Wehenkel III of Toledo, OH, Michael Kiley (Jenn) of Thompson, CT, Christopher Kiley (Mike) of Bunnell, FL, Kevin Kiley (Debra) of Webster, and James Kiley (Fran) of Wilmington, DE; and five cousins, Robbin Baugh of NY, Karen Jenkins (Brad) of Tennessee, Melanie Dos Santos (George) of Florida, Artie Wehenkel (Teena) of Florida, and Linda Green (Kelley) of Tennessee. She was born on March 25, 1949, the daughter of the late Blanche V. (Meszkutowicz) Wehenkel, and lived in Oxford, Manhattan, NY, Daytona, FL, and Largo, FL, before moving to Sebring 12 years ago. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1967.

Mrs. Wehenkel worked in the advertising department at Comcast in Sebring Florida for the past 5 years. Previously, she worked at Jerry’s Catering at Daytona International Airport for 2 years and Val-Pak in New York and Sebring, FL, for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her 9 Siamese cats that she cherished – they were her children. She also enjoyed NASCAR races, martial arts, and yard sales.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012, from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m., at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at North Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
